Weekend Recap: Atlanta Travels
This past weekend, I finally got to see my best friend after what seems like forever…my friend who’s last name I actually used for Hallen’s name! She must be kind of special ;-p But, Kevin and I decided to make a weekend trip out of it, and just get away. See new things. Let the girls explore a new city. We didn’t have time to do anything big, because of bridal shower plans and having dinner with her family, but I was totally fine with that.
I kept telling Hallen we were going to Atlanta, and after that, all she would say is, “let’s go to my ‘lanta house.” And as soon as we got back to South Carolina, she started BAWLINGGGGG. She was so upset we weren’t at her ‘lanta house anymore! I think it’s because she got to sleep in the same bed with us at the beginning of the night. She kept telling us that she just wanted her big white bed.
Anyhow…we got to Atlanta about around 10pm on Friday night, so we just went straight to bed. In the morning, we walked around the Decatur town square, and grabbed breakfast at Sweet Melissa’s. Oh my goodness! So yummy! I wish I had some photos to show you, but you can just go there and taste it for yourself. Kevin and I both had different types of tofu scrambles that were delicious. And the girls split some french toast. We walked around the square exploring coffee shops and stores after that. We went into what we thought was a toy store, but it turned out to be a children’s salon! How smart to put basically a whole toy store in there ! Hallen had a tantrum when we made her leave, because she wanted to keep watching The Secret Life of Pets while pushing around a buggy full of Jelly Cat bunnies. Hard life.
During nap time, I went to go see my friend try on her wedding gown, which was GORGEOUS! I cannot wait to see her walk down that aisle in May. I’m going to be full on sobbing. I just know it. Luckily, Kevin was there to take over the parenting reigns during nap time. When I walked into our room, he had Hazel on his chest and was holding Hallen’s hand. Poor guy! I forgot to leave Hallen’s paci with him when I left (yes, my 3 year old still sucks a paci…she won’t when she goes to college. It’ll be okay). He slowly put Hazel in the crib and we went to the lobby. They slept until dinner time! Then, we got to have dinner with the Hallen’s (the people who’s last name I used for Hallen…it sounds confusing in a sentence). It felt like old times!
Sunday morning, we woke up and went for a jog…and when I say jog, I use the term lightly, because it’s been since November since we’ve gone for a run. I used to run 4 miles with our double Bob stroller 4 times a week, but our neighborhood is so hilly, and I think I must have been running like a a twisted pretzel, because my back and shoulders were all out whack. So, I’ve backed off completely and just kept with yoga. I feel so much better that my body is getting all back in place. After our jog/walk, it was really just getting ready for the bridal shower and then after the shower, we drove home! So…super short trip, but so fun. We’re thinking we need to take a quarterly family getaway…just for the weekend. Hallen’s at the age now where it was just such a joy to watch her enjoy a new area and take in all that it had to offer.
The kids were completely out for 2.5 solid hours. We stopped in Greenville, SC , because I knew their Whole Foods was just off the interstate. We could knock out dinner and a little grocery shopping! I tucked Hazel into our new Infantino wrap, which I love! Hazel definitely prefers to be front facing these days if we’re wearing her unless she’s a little sleepy…and she was! It’s my favorite way to wear her, because I selfishly like the cuddles.
We made really great timing for having two littles with us. But we woke up this morning to two sick kiddos. Who knows what they have! I hope it passes quickly. I do wish we could go back to our ‘lanta house for a few more days to play around with the girls, but we had so much fun! We’ll definitely be planning another getaway soon. If you happen to go to Decatur anytime soon, I definitely recommend the Marriot on Clairmont Ave. It’s right in the heart of Decatur. We were able to walk everywhere! And there was public transport really close.
