My Essentia Pillow

What’s a good night’s sleep worth to you? I want you to think of a real number in your head or write it down on a piece of paper. Right now, as a mama of two little girls (one who still gets up once a night, and the other who has started venturing out of her room much earlier than her usual), I’d pay top dollar for sleep. Like…give me a wet nurse for a week, the most peaceful hotel room where I can hear the ocean all night, and a mattress and pillow that will guarantee I don’t toss and turn all night.

If I did that for a week, it’d cost $1,000 for a wet nurse ( yep, I googled that), the cost for a nice hotel room on the ocean (using a deal finder website), totaled $1,155 for the week, and a nanny for both girls is $600. So, I’d pay at least $2500 if I round down, because maybe you could find a cheaper hotel with all the great amenities or a cheaper nanny.

Yes, please! Sign me up! One week of going to bed early (you young people don’t know what you’re missing out on when you go to bed late) and staying in bed until I decide it’s time to get out.  Doesn’t that sound magical? I’m not saying I’d trade in my kids for it. That’s taking it a little too far, but I’d pay for a little time to zone out and not have to rely on four cups of coffee to get me through a day.

Well, we got the chance of partnering up with Essentia to try out some of their pillows. The first night I slept on it, it definitely felt different than what I was used to sleeping on. I wasn’t sure if it was good or bad. Kevin fell right to sleep, and told me it was the perfect pillow. He loved the cooling sensation (even through a pillow case), and he woke up nice and rested. I’m always the skeptic in our relationship anyways, so I always have to warm up to new ideas. I decided to keep sleeping on it.

Well, it’s been two weeks now, and it’s the only pillow I sleep with. I think I was used to crappy sleeping {excuse the language…I just don’t know how else to say it}. My body didn’t know what to do and how to act those first couple nights. I can honestly say that I fall asleep quicker with my classic pillow.  It supports my body (and Kevin’s …keep in mind we’re two completely different sizes) differently (and better) than your normal pillow. I can still sleep in all different positions (back, side, and stomach). If I was any shorter, I’d probably go with a slimmer pillow like the Swayback.

Our daughters also love playing with and laying on the pillows when we have our lazy Saturdays. Although it looks like Hazel is in dire need of coffee since she kept waking up last night. Looks like she’ll be getting her Essentia mattress soon!

That leads me to one of the greatest things (besides amazing sleep) about Essentia’s products. they’re made from natural ingredients. Their “natural memory foam is made using hevea milk (rubber tree sap), so it still feels like memory foam mattresses and pillows we all know and love, but it’s made without the gunk.” So what does that mean to you as a user? I investigated, because I’m all about clearing out gunk from my life little by little. (That’s a reason I joined Beautycounter.) If you purchase one of their mattresses or pillows, you’ll be getting a product that has much lower VOCs than other memory foam products.  You’ll be getting a product made without petroleum. That sounds wonderful! Who would knowingly sleep on a “nice” mattress if they were informed that it was made of petroleum?! No one? Okay. Instead, Essentia uses organic essential oils like grapefruit seed, cone flower essence, and jasmine essence. How cool is that?! They’re also vegan, so they don’t contain any animal products.

Knowing all of that helps me to sleep so much better at night (no pun intended). Knowing that Essentia has my safety and the safety of my family in mind puts me at peace. When Kevin starts carrying our children in his hands, however…a whole other story. 😉
